WELCOME
My name is Anastasia Dushak. I am originally from Ukraine and currently live in Sweden.
My creative practice is rooted in the exploration of human emotions, the inner world, and personal experience. Through my work, I combine painting, psychology, design, and contemporary artistic practices.
For me, art is a way of reminding people that they already possess the ability to create, find meaning, and express themselves using what is available to them here and now. I believe creativity should be accessible, diverse, and inspiring. It is not a privilege for a select few, but a natural human need and an opportunity available to everyone.
My Story
My journey in art began spontaneously — as a natural continuation of a childhood desire to create. Since early childhood, I have always loved making things with my hands. For me, it has always been more than just an activity: it is a way of thinking, listening, dreaming, pausing for a moment, and transforming inner images into reality through the means available to me.
I am a self-taught artist with no formal academic art education, but with a strong inner need to feel and express. Through various experiments and observations, I came to understand that creating art for the sake of art itself is the most honest and healthy approach. There is a natural process in it: we notice something, an idea is born, the idea becomes an image, the image becomes a work, and the work evokes emotion. These emotional movements — or even their absence — are the essence of art.
In my work, I often focus on faces. But these are not portraits of appearance — they are portraits of states. Psychological, emotional, and inner states. They reflect what we hide, what we experience in silence, or what we cannot always express in words.
I believe that art does not need to be comfortable or easy to understand. Sometimes misunderstanding, rejection, or doubt is a natural reaction that indicates the work has truly created an inner resonance. At the same time, balance is always present in my paintings: light and shadow, acceptance and resistance, opposites that coexist simultaneously. Sometimes this is expressed in two works, sometimes within a single composition.
I use vivid color as a language of emotion, abstract form as a way of conveying states, and details as layers of meaning that are revealed only upon closer observation.
Observation of people is also essential to my practice. In every person, I see a reflection — sometimes familiar, sometimes challenging, sometimes an unspoken feeling. It can be a story, a gaze, or a state that cannot be explained in words but is recognized on a deeper level. I translate these experiences into painting.
Every viewer can find something of their own in my work. Because despite the individuality of experience, we all go through similar emotional states — joy, loneliness, tension, softness, ecstasy, doubt. And this is what makes art alive and universally recognizable in its own way.
